Online Typing Tutorials

I have been asked by several people to recommend some online typing tutorials (no registration required). Here they are.

Tutorials

• Touch Typing - This site has a flash based tutorial that generates random text. If you make a mistake while typing, it will show you where the key is on the keyboard and what finger you are supposed to use to press it. This tutorial would be excellent if it would actually have you type something meaningful (like words).
• Typing Master - This is a good java based tutorial that gives you good analysis of how you type, rhythm, excessive use of the backspace key, etc. It is only a demo, so you are limited to the first few lessons. You may have to login manually, so the username is "demo" and the password is "demo".

Tests

• Typing Test will gauge your progress in speed and accuracy. The test can run from one to three minutes and gives you four different texts to choose from.
• Learn 2 Type - this test gives you a paragraph to type. It begins typing when you click in the textbox and stops when you click the Finished button.

Games

• Typer Shark is a game from Popcap where you are a diver and sharks are coming to eat you. Type the word on the shark and you will survive.

• Fingerjig is a flash game where random words pop up and you try to type them as fast as you can without making mistakes. After six minutes, it displays your words per minute and accuracy as well as a calculated score.
